With the evolution of swine diseases, respiratory diseases are not caused by a single pathogen anymore. Often, multiple pathogens infect the pigs sequentially or simultaneously, referred to as Swine Respiratory Disease Complex. This complexity brings difficulties to diagnosis and treatment.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a training session by Carme, where I listened to Dr. Connor, a renowned veterinarian from the United States, give a wonderful speech on "An Overview of Swine Respiratory Disease Complex - Etiology, Diagnosis, and Prevention".

Yang Xichuan, a fashion icon in Shandong Linchu County, addressed the Bureau of Animal Husbandry of Linchu County regarding the overview of swine respiratory diseases. These diseases have become a major problem in pork production with a significant impact on economic loss.

• Full-enter, full-exit, early isolation and weaning, and multi-point production methods are effective management techniques for preventing swine respiratory diseases.
• Relief of various stresses and improvement of immune function by adding immunoenhancing nutrition, such as 1kg of Jianshiliyuan in feed, and adding precise anti-stress agents such as Aiyinmei during sudden changes in weather.
• Biosecurity and corresponding vaccine prevention, such as Pseudorabies and Circovirus.

For pig farms, over 60% of disease-related losses come from respiratory diseases. As they say, "Outside is not treated with psoriasis, inside is not treated with shortness of breath," which highlights the difficulty in preventing respiratory diseases.

It's crucial to pinpoint the pathogens causing swine respiratory diseases. Only by identifying the root cause can we effectively control the disease. Blindly administering drugs or adding them to feed is not the right approach.

• Transmissible factors: Viruses, bacteria, mycoplasma, and other pathogens.
• Non-transmissible factors: Poor ventilation, humidity, and environmental sanitation, as well as malnutrition and mold contamination.

Proper management, including maintaining suitable room temperatures, enhancing ventilation, keeping the environment fresh, reducing the use of powdered feed, keeping the pen dry, timely removal of manure, regular disinfection, and feeding a balanced diet, is essential to prevent respiratory diseases.

In conclusion, precise diagnosis is indeed the cornerstone of preventing swine respiratory diseases. By understanding and implementing effective strategies, we can ensure a healthier pig herd.
